Career options for 12th students after PCM

Choosing the best career option after class 12 is an important life decision that every student has to go through. When it was the question of which stream after 10th, now it is the question of which profession after 12th. Both are the turning point in a student's life because their career depends on the choices they make. Some students take up their field of interest as their career after class 12. Some go with the career options that they think can bring them a decent job without much risk. Some go with the trending career option available in the market. What after PCM?

PCM stands for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, which is a non- medical stream in science. Bachelor of Science (B.Sc)

Similarly, there is B.Sc Chemistry and B.Sc Physics also. Students can also go for Integrated PG courses for any of these subjects. In most of the prestigious institutions, the admission is based on student performance in class 12. Some institutions prefer to take separate entrance exams for their admission process. This course is suitable for those who are interested in research works or want to become professors, teachers, or lectures in institutes/ colleges/ universities.

Bachelor of Architecture

This course includes aspects of Interior design, rural and urban planning, landscape architecture, building architecture, construction management, etc. The admission for B.Arch is mainly done through NATA or JEE mains scorecards.

Bachelor of Planning (B.Plan)

Not known to many, B.Plan is a professional four-year undergraduate course that focuses on building suitable urban and rural environments taking its social, cultural, economic, and environmental aspects into consideration. It focuses on designing, engineering, managing, and also resolving challenges related to urban human settlements, while at the same time building competence in a particular area of business. Mathematics in class 12 is a mandatory requirement for this course. The admission for B.Plan is mainly based on JEE mains and NATA scores.

Bachelor of Design

Students with a creative and innovative mind can take B.Des as a good option. B.Des is available with various specializations such as Fashion Designing, Interior Designing, Graphic Designing, Product Designing, Textile Designing, Jewellery Designing, Visual Communication, and much more. The scope for design has increased with increased opportunities in various industry sectors and technological advancement. Students can directly start their careers after B.Des. They could intern with leading designers of their specialization to create better career opportunities. For admission to B.Design courses, aspirants have to appear for various Design Entrance Exams.

Merchant Navy

B.Sc in Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Naval architecture, etc., is some of the options for students who would like to choose the merchant navy as their career. These courses focus on the academic and practical devices required to safely navigate and operate marine vehicles, such as a ship. The admissions are usually based on the entrance exams.


National Defence Academy (NDA) is a joint services academy of the Indian Army, the navy, and airforce. It is an academy that trains candidates before they go to a respective service academy for further pre-commissioning training. Students can appear in NDA entrance for admission and make a good career in this field.

Bachelor of computer science (BCS)/ Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA)

Students who are interested in computer science and its application can go for this three-year undergraduate program. This program involves construction, design, operation, as well as maintenance of computing software as well as hardware. After the course, the students can find jobs in the rapidly growing IT sector. The admission for this course is based on merits i.e, performance in class 12th.

Bachelor of Business Administration

The BBA course can provide job opportunities in sectors like Marketing, Education, Finance, Sales, and Government. The admission for B.Com is mainly merit-based. To pursue CA the student will have to take the CA-CPT exam.

Bachelor of Arts (BA)

BA is a popular undergraduate course of three-year duration. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)

Civil Services offer opportunities for individuals to work in Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Services (IPS), Indian Foreign Services (IFS), and other such prestigious Group A, Group B, and All-India civil services. To qualify as an Indian Civil Servant the student has to clear the civil services examination conducted by Union Public Commission of India.
